The collection is based around the concept of escapism and inspired by childhood. Old photographs taken at the beach lead the development of oversized jumpers paired with mismatched swimwear.

 

The concept of memory boxes and small treasures is a prominent theme. Fragments of small and insignificant objects such as shells collected at the beach hold great nostalgia and sentimentality creating a powerful and heartfelt mood for the collection.

This is reflected in the development of surface decoration fuelled by the use of beaded safety-pins as intricate textile embellishment which is featured throughout the work. This technique explores the concept of trivial objects being taken out of context to create something exciting and unrecognisable.
